How to Drive in the Rain

November 10th, 2022 by

Most of us have to drive in the rain at some point. Here are a few tips from Modern Classic Motors to help you stay safe on the roads of Grand Junction, CO:

-Slow down! It takes longer to stop or adjust course in wet weather, so give yourself extra time to react.

-Turn on your headlights, even if it’s not raining hard. This will help you see better and let other drivers know you’re on the road.

-Be extra careful around cyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists. They’re harder to see in the rain and can be easily knocked over by passing traffic.

-Keep an eye out for hydroplaning. This is when your tires lose contact with the road surface, and you start to slide. If you start to hydroplane, ease off the accelerator and steer straight until you regain control.

-Avoid puddles if possible. They can hide hazards like potholes, debris, or even animals.

-If you have to drive through a puddle, go slow and splash as little water on other cars or pedestrians as possible.

-And finally, don’t forget to use your windshield wipers! They’ll help you see better and make it easier for other drivers to see you.
